Heart-Healthy Pizza Topping

HEART-HEALTHY
PIZZA TOPPING
 Makes: 12" pizza; 8 slices

1  6-ounce can sodium-reduced tomato paste
¼ cup water
½ teaspoon dried basil, crushed
½  teaspoon dried oregano, crushed
½  teaspoon garlic powder
½  teaspoon dried crushed red peppers
¾  cup chopped green pepper
¾ cup sliced fresh mushrooms
½ cup chopped or sliced onions
Other vegetables in season as desired
8 ounces shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

In a bowl, mix thoroughly tomato paste, water, basil, oregano, garlic powder and red peppers.  Spread evenly over an unbaked 12" pizza crust.   Layer green pepper, mushrooms, onions and other vegetables in season as desired, evenly over sauce.  Cover with shredded cheese.  Bake. Oven: 400oF. Time: 20 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust lightly browned.

Nutrient analysis: 1 slice (topping only)    70 Calories, 3.6 g Fat, 13 mg Cholesterol, 69 mg Sodium, 0.3 g Dietary Fiber, 92 mg Calcium. Exchanges: 1 lean meat, 1 vegetable


Seasoning a'la Grill

SEASONING ALA GRILL

Sprinkle this aromatic blend on grilled meats.

Makes:   ½ cup seasoning mix

2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon ground basil
1 tablespoon ground anise seed
1 tablespoon ground oregano
1 tablespoon powdered lemon rind

Blend thoroughly.  Store in tightly covered glass container.
